COGS 118D · Fall 2026
Prerequisite Pre-Test
This pre-test gauges the prerequisite knowledge you bring into COGS 118D. I don't expect you to remember everything from your prerequisite courses perfectly, but some topics are essential for learning the new material in this course.
If you find yourself really struggling on this pre-test (<50%), come have a chat with me about whether 118D is right for you at this time. I never want to bar a student from taking a class, but I also want to make sure you're not quickly falling behind because of assumed prerequisite knowledge. If a majority of students struggle on one of the following topics, I'll also know to spend more time on it in class.
Content: There are 39 multiple-choice questions in this pre-test with no time limit. Completing the pre-test earns you 1 extra grade point, and it is NOT graded on accuracy. When you submit the pre-test, you'll get a personal report on which topics you might want to brush up on based on what questions you missed.
Instructions: You may use a calculator and scratch paper on this pre-test. Please do NOT use the internet or AI tools: the point is to get an honest snapshot of what you know right now.
Choose one answer for each question. e ≈ 2.718, and "log" means the natural log. Your answers are saved in this browser until you submit.
